My Grandfather’s Words: Thursday July 4, 1918


The weather is fair and very hot.

Breakfast was spuds, coffee, eggs, bread, and jam. For our dinner we had ice cream, cake, chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, and stuffing and fixings. I ate so much I was uncomfortable.
